Thoughts on lateraling out of NYC for Cali or Texas? I know it sounds stupid but I’ve grown up here my whole life and want to experience something else. Is it career suicide or not as big of a deal as people make it seem?

I would imagine that coming back to NYC would be tough. As long as you are ok ending up in Cali / TX, I don't see why not.
Although I'd avoid SF - seems like a terrible place to be unless you are dead set on tech.
