Lateral to Top BB Group? - London
Hi, I was searching the forum but could not get any London-centric insight on lateralling. A little bit of background: I am currently an analyst (started in Jan 2019) at a mid-tier BB in of the strong(est) teams at the bank (think CS TMT, BAML M&A, Citi HC) and could feasibly lateral to one of the top teams at GS/MS/JPM. Would the move be highly beneficial if I wanted to move to Private Equity and didn't mind spending three years in IB to do so? What are the potential ramifications at my current firm? Will headhunters look down upon such a prestige-fueled move? Thanks in advance!
You should do the move if you want to maximize your exit opps, headhunters dont really mind that as long as you are competent and make them earn money
Plenty of people move to GS/MS/JPM purely to exit. But speak to HHs first as you may directly move to PE from your shop.
I would not recommend moving as you would then have to rebuild social and political at your new bank. Headhunters do not focus as much on top groups as in the US. You will get looks as long as you speak a second European language and have ok deal experience. I had no problem being recruited in a megafund from a mid-tier BB.
