Lateraled Investment Banks, Similar Buyside Engagement
I lateraled to a larger IB after the New Year. At my previous firm I was staffed on a buyside engagement for a niche industry and worked on that project for just about a year. I had this project (on a blind basis) on my resume and spoke about my involvement to the senior bankers at my new firm. Just got word that I will be on a buyside engagement in the same industry for my new firm given my work in the space already.
There are not many targets in this space and I have a good handle on who the ripe candidates are for consolidation but am concerned about possible implications with my last firm. Could I potentially find myself in a bad spot if I come up with names that were on the target list at my previous firm? Anything I would need to be careful of legally?
The client from the previous engagement is still active for at least another year to my knowledge. Unlikely they will get anything done but that obv doesn't change anything on what I am able to do. I would certainly be burning bridges with previous client/firm if we announce a transaction with one of their targets, but outside of this is there any risk to me?
Appreciate it!
Bump, interested as well. How much confidential info can you bring on to your next round, if you are covering a similar product or industry?
