Was it random or mostly underperformers?
Given IB is a popularity contest, it’s usually just who is least popular. In my experience, it’s not always the associates you’d think from an analyst perspective.

The cuts last year were only a part of 10% cumulative RIF by Q1’24, there were recent cuts across groups and levels
