LBS Placement for Class of 24’

Anyone care to comment on the placement of the 2024’ MFA class? Given the slump in hiring in London were they still able to place graduates as highly as they usually do?

Very tough recruitment cycle now. As of january only ~30% were holding offers (mostly either summer or return offers, and a few off cycles). Now maybe ~50% with 2.5 months till graduation.

Placements for BB IBD are mostly for HK rather than london (99% of them are students from china).

Placements for IBD london (more so BB) are not good: mostly european language speakers, females, or URM. PE/GE even less. No one got GS/JPM IBD SA in London (although there’s a few returns for both). One in MS and a few in UBS IBD London tho.

But good placements can be seen for other sectors, such as private credit, equity research, private banking, asset management, secondaries, and even commodity trading.

For now, very few has received non-return FT offers.

Market has been extremely competitive.

Work experience helps but what moved the needle this cycle was fit, European language ability, or profile (female/URM), especially for BB IBD.

Other than a few notorious EBs, most banks/firms focused much more on fit than technicals in this cycle.

Also, many successfully networked and had dozens of coffee chats to secure referrals/first rounds (especially in boutiques).

Most in the class have really good experience already (1-2 IB/PE exp) and still didn’t manage to secure offers or even first round interviews.

Some even have prior BB IB London experience/Oxbridge undergrad and haven’t received offers.
