Leaving BB IBD Program Early

Is there a "good" way to leave a BB program early without burning bridges. Referring to structured 2 year programs (or 3 in the case of some of the banks now) specifically.

I left my program mid-way through my 2nd year and know others who did the same within my group and others, and senior (VP and above) bankers tend to take it extremely personally that you're leaving. I've also not heard of anyone leaving their program early and serving out any notice (it is usually inform and out the same day). Interested to hear what others have experienced with this.
