I've been hearing that Lehman is not as good as it used to be, but I can't find any real evidence to support it.

There was an article in the wall street journal about this topic on Monday.
The COO spoke at my school earlier this year. He talked about how Lehman is not as good as the "brand" would lead people to believe. But he was really passionate about leading Lehman to the top, and said that working at Lehman was a great opportunity to grab some of the "low-hanging fruit" within the firm (ie, have more responsibility and prove yourself by handling big projects).
That's basically because it's more risk averse than its competitors, and the stock price has been depressed (again, compared to competitors, and only in the short term). A merger with UBS/HSBC would be probably dilutive, and idiotic (look at DLJ/CS). And the trading platform still dominates
