Let's Get this Straight: How many Hours do You Work on Saturday/Sunday?

Just hit the desk as a first-year. at a "lower tier" BB. Are we expectred to answer emails on Satuday and Sunday? And SHOULD we be "logged in?"

TBH idk, just don't wanna get fired..

Im always within ~1hr of my laptop, if needed, no matter what im doing, or bring it with me if im going away or on a longer outing. This goes triple for a first year An, unless ofc your team knows ahead of time you’ll be out of pocket for some reason.

As for hours, it depends. Some weekends I put in 20hrs, even as an associate, because things are busy or live. Others, like this weekend, I likely won’t touch my laptop until Monday morning. It’s not necessarily the hours that people hate, it’s the unpredictability.

For a First Year, is it odd that I am not doing work this weekend/or not pulling in 10 hour days when there is work? I am not "logged in" (showing my status as online), but I am within an arms length to my work laptop...would that be okay?

Just not sure if they are any "unspoken rules" I am not catching up on...

Edit: Maybe another thing is....Am I expected to be "pro-active" on weekends? aka updating numbers or emailing anyone..?

On average I put at least 6h a day over the wknd. IMO you should be proactive in certain areas and if on live deals or Monday deadlines but also try to protect yourself and not create extra unnecessary work. These type of things will not impact your bonus or reviews and are easily forgotten. Analyst's life is tough anyway so working smart is as important as working hard.
