Likelihood to return to my previous firm?

Hey everyone,

So I recently left a large bank that I was with for a bit under a year largely due to urgent personal and family circumstances that required me to take off a period of time. During my time at that company, I think my team understood that I strongly preferred being located in my home city and wasn’t very flexible with geography (which was part of the reason that I needed to resign from the company).

Recently, I applied to two similar positions at my old firm (both are somewhat similar to my prior role at the firm so think I could be a good fit), one in my home city and another in another regional office.

Recently, I was just rejected from the regional office position (after one day after application) and haven’t heard anything yet regarding the position in my home city (been 2 weeks already).

Given this, I just wanted to hear your guys’ thoughts on my likelihood of being able to return to my previous company. My manager seemed to be relatively encouraging of me exploring opportunities at the firm but not sure if that’s just a bluff. My performance at my old company was solid I believe (based on manager’s feedback).
