Lincoln International Interview - Waiting Game?
A VP from the portfolio valuations team at Lincoln International's Valuations & Opinions Group reached out to me and we had a call.
A couple days later, I had an HR interview followed by a cognitive test 1 day after. That was almost 3 weeks ago. I read through other people's experience and it appears it usually takes 1-2 months with some taking 2-4 weeks. The process follows:
- HR interview
- Cognitive and/or personality assessment
- Technical test (situational)
- Superday
While I don't think I did great on the cognitive portion, I did only get 1 attempt vs the 2 attempts others have described. I'm wondering if there's an indirect meaning to it or if I'm reading into it too much. Plus, I know they were busy with Q3 work but we're a bit removed from that and I'm getting more anxious that I didn't get it. It would suck if didn't get the next round because of the cognitive portion.
I don't have great experiences with recruiters providing communication as it typically means they selected another candidate. I really want this job as the company, location, and role fits where I want to be. I want to reach out but I also want to give them the benefit of doubt as it seems like 1-2 months is typical.
Does anyone have any similar experience with them? If so, can you share about the waiting process?
In general, how do you handle this pressure of waiting? I've been monitoring my email closely every day and that feeling sucks.
They’re prob just busy. 9/30 is peak hours for the quarter. Expect to hear back within a week or two as things cool off.
No I don’t work there
Wow. I didn't think of that lol. But in all seriousness I have no other choice but to wait
Ah, the waiting game. It's like a roller coaster ride, isn't it? One moment you're up, the next you're down, and all the while you're just hoping for that sweet, sweet email to pop up in your inbox.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems like the interview process at Lincoln International can indeed take 1-2 months, sometimes even stretching to 2-4 weeks. The process typically includes an HR interview, cognitive and/or personality assessment, a technical test, and finally, the Superday.
Now, about the cognitive test. Don't sweat it too much. It's just one part of the process, and there's a chance they're looking at your overall profile rather than just one test score. And hey, maybe they only gave you one attempt because they thought you nailed it the first time around!
As for reaching out, it's a delicate balance. You don't want to come off as too pushy, but you also want to show your interest. If it's been a while since you last heard from them, it might be worth sending a polite follow-up email to check in on the status of your application.
And finally, dealing with the pressure of waiting. It's tough, I know. But remember, you've done all you can at this point. Try to keep yourself busy with other things - maybe pick up a new hobby, or dive into some good books. And remember, no matter what the outcome, you're still a rockstar.
Hang in there, my friend. Good things come to those who wait!

Surprisingly reassuring
Had the phone call in week 1, then behavioral test the next week, followed by the technical test the week after that. Hope that helps!
Stay away from that team. Terrible culture and hours. If a VP is cold messaging you on linkedin that means they're desparate.
UPDATE: So I received a rejection email but it wasn't clear which position it was for since I had applied to a few but there was only 1 that I was actively interviewing for. I messaged the recruiter asking for clarification and/or updates and I have yet to receive a response. And that was two weeks ago. So it's probably safe to assume I didn't make it past the cognitive portion. Hopefully this helps future applicants.
