Linkedin Tips

Fellow members of the KingKong tribe:

I'm a beginner with Linkedin and I've an extremely silly question:

- you're not premium user (pay nothing)
- you see a profile/person which you'd like to add to your network
- you don't know anything (email etc.) about him or her
- you're not prepared to pay the insane $10 for one InMail

What do you do? And would also be glad to hear any advice & tips on networking with Linkedin.

Thanks!

Once you build up some contacts it will be easier for you to find someone who can get you in touch with people you find on LinkedIn. I agree with CREChicagoJrBroker that in the meantime getting creative or simply Googling 'persons name' + email + phone will typically give you some results.

Also as I'm sure you know, LinkedIn lets the person know if you clicked on their page and viewed their profile. You can take advantage of this feature once you have some contact information and are prepared to send that first cold contact. Click their page so it shows them that you viewed it, it is highly likely that they will click on your profile when they see the notification. Then when you email them they at least have a general idea of who you are. Has worked for me

This is slightly different but if you come across a profile that you can't see you can then go to google and type in their information and view the page cached.

Ex. If it says John S. you can simply type in John, his job title and location, and linkedin into google and if it comes up then simply click on the little down arrow and hit cached.

Another tip is to look at that side bar of similar people, click on one of them, and chances are on THEIR side bar your person will come up.
