Living at the office

I was BSing with an alum the other day and he started talking about analysts that his firm had caught living at the office. I don't know if the kids were in between leases or what, but they would put in their 18 hour day and then just crash on the floor, clean up the next morning at a health club, then do it again.

How much truth there is to this, I have no idea. Regardless, I found it pretty funny. Definitely would make life even more miserable and is borderline impossible to manage this for a year, but also could save $20k+ in rent. Anyone have similar stories, or even been the analyst that literally lived in their cube?

I doubt it is true, but I did keep a pillow and would sleep under the desk in my cube when I was waiting for a turn in the middle of the night...you just have to make sure the phone is on super high volume or you wont wake up.

i know some analysts that have been in the office for 3-4 days straight and have only left to go shower / shave at the gym. My worst was a 41 hour day so there was no need for that.

I wonder if any of the BBs with their own buildings would consider knocking out 2-3 floors into hotel rooms. That would make the banking life 100 times easier.

Isn't GS's new NY HQ being built across from a hotel complex they own?

The whole analyst living in the office is just an investment banking urban myth - everybody's heard the story but never actually witnessed it first hand...

i've taken them back to the office and gotten serviced while updating my comps. my colleagues didn't mind.

------------ I'm making it up as I go along.
