London 2024 SA timeline

Hello everyone,

I couldn't find a similar thread for investment banking recruiting in London for 2024, so I thought I'd start one. Based on my research, it seems like applications usually open around July/August, can anyone confirm?

I'm also curious about networking in London. How important is it in the recruitment process? Does it give you an edge over other applicants who don't network? Is it something worth spending time on, or does it not make much of a difference? I've heard mixed feedback about the significance of networking in London compared to the US, where it's a big part of the game.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Cheers

Point72 opened in February iirc, most open around the time you said and later.

Hello,

  1.  August/September is when most open. MS is notorious for pretty much finishing around September and moving very quickly, so you better be quick with your August application.
  2. Networking is not important in the UK.
  3. Do not spend time on networking; HR decides who to shortlist in the initial stages, bankers have very little/no pull.
  4. Networking may be useful when applying only insofar as to get insider information on the culture of the desk.
    1. Networking is necessary only after getting your offer to land the group you want.

The UK has a much more random process when it comes to applications because of the lack of networking. Better in terms of representation imo

Is this when the applications open? When do the interviews/video interviews happen? Do they start immediately after applications are submitted?

If anyone has this it’d be great to have for prospect IB stars like myself

LSESU Business & Investment Group will release their tracker closer to the opening dates, so keep an eye on their socials.

Their 22/23 SA tracker can be found here, I suspect the 23/24 tracker will be similar.

Can I apply if I’m about to start my uni this year, so I’ll be just after my first year, or are most companies targeting people in their sophomore/final year?
