London IB Dress Code

New York banker curious  how investment bankers dress in London vs New York. What are the do’s and don’ts? I’ve heard things like no brown shoes but is that some old school bs?

Pre covid the uniform was basically a Navy suit (I liked wearing side tabs on my trousers, belts are less of a thing), white or blue business shirt with silver cufflinks, and black oxford shoes. Fairly conservative, but pretty easy to dress. Rarely a tie, but always had one on hand.

I would have been laughed at if I wore brown shoes, "no brown in town" is real

It is true that you won't see brown shoes in London, at least not in most cases. I can't remember I have seen brown shoes in my team.
Some people do go out of the ordinary and have unique accessories like a tie bar, or unique cuff links. But that is about it.
Suspenders are not as common, but every once in a while you will see a guy wearing them, it is rare though.
