London - IB SA Summer Accommodation - How much to pay?

Hi, I currently have 3 offers for a summer accommodation(studio) near my office in the city:

Offer 1 - 320 GBP p/w (17min walk/15min tube) in Whitechapel

Offer 2 - 320 GBP p/w (23min walk/13min tube) in Shoreditch

Offer 3 - 389 GBP p/w (10min walk/15min bus) in City

I'm unsure if the the shorter walk to the office is worth the higher rent.

Happy to hear your thoughts!

Hey,

I would say a 10 min difference by walk each way shouldn't be too big of a deal, especially since you'll likely get taxis back in the evening. I'm also looking at accom atm for the summer - do you mind me asking where you found these places?

Alright, thanks! Would you go for the cheaper shoreditch option or is the shorter commute worth the price?

I had the same issue as you, and I came to the conclusion that my goal for the summer is to get a return offer, and that may mean living as close as possible to the office to get as much sleep as you can. In the end of the day, it's 10 weeks, and most landlords will be reluctant to sign a contract for anything less than 6 months, let alone a summer.

That's just my personal opinion, like another person said, you'll be getting taxis back at night anyway, so I guess try to find a place that ticks both boxes. That being said, I would focus more on my first factor.

Yeah, I want to be close to the office too. I guess, the question is if 23min walk/15min tube is close enough.

I found a place around Kings Cross (next to Gray's inn garden), and it was 30min away by bus during rush hours (otherwise 15min) or 12 min by bike/Lime from the City. I paid £950/month.

Try University of London Accommodation; from what I know they have a few accoms open in the summer around 250/week; near tube stations and about a 20-25 min walk from the city

Is anyone still looking for accommodation? Not sure if I've left it too late or if it's normal for more places to be available around 1-2 months before expected move in date as opposed to say 4-6 months before.

I'm incoming analyst in London, perhaps I can offer some advice

F* Whitechapel, avoid, Shoreditch/city are alright

You are paying way too much, is this for your own flat just for you or are you sharing?

My friends who are sharing rn are paying 220 p/w each, paying anything over 250 p/w if you're sharing is silly

You're also looking a bit too early, stuff comes up later in the year but before your summer

If you're set on having your own flat and the figures are for your own flat I would go with shoreditch/city depending on what vibe you like

I was 25 min from my office by tube and that was perfectly fine

Thank you for the insights.

The prices above would be with no roommates, but I'll keep my eyes open for cheaper places then.
