Will be interning in London next summer and was wondering what people generally have used in the past for accomodation?

You're way too early... I can recommend student accommodations though
From what I know, a lot of people lived in shitty areas like Bethnal Green or Stratford
Interned in CW and shared a 3-room flat in Bermondsey. Paid ~1100£/month, commute took 25 minutes door-to-door but a bit far from the center when you’re going out on the weekends (30-minute commute), but should be fine
