London - UBS VS Rothschild for exits (GE)

Interested in growth equity. I know Rothschild focuses mainly on MM deals, but closes a lot of them. However, groups are less growthy compared to UBS

Which should I pick for exit opportunities to growth equity firms? Interested in deep tech primarily, but afaik neither Roth or UBS have a strong tech team, so just looking for the better brand name.

Based on previous WSO threads, here's what you need to know:

  • Rothschild London: Rothschild is highly regarded for its brand and the volume of deals it handles, particularly in the middle market (MM). The firm is rapidly expanding in the US and has been involved in significant M&A mandates. Exits from Rothschild, especially in London, are considered stellar, with many analysts moving to top positions in various sectors.

  • UBS: UBS is a well-known global brand with a strong presence in various financial sectors. While it may not have the same volume of MM deals as Rothschild, it offers a broader range of opportunities and a strong brand name that is recognized worldwide.

Key Considerations:

  • Deal Volume and Experience: Rothschild's high volume of MM deals can provide extensive hands-on experience, which is valuable for exit opportunities.
  • Brand Recognition: UBS has a strong global brand, which can be advantageous when seeking exit opportunities, especially in growth equity.
  • Tech Focus: Neither firm is particularly strong in deep tech, but UBS's broader brand might offer more flexibility in pivoting to tech-focused roles.

Recommendation:

For exit opportunities to growth equity firms, especially if you are interested in deep tech, UBS might be the better choice due to its stronger global brand recognition. However, if you value extensive deal experience and a strong presence in the MM sector, Rothschild could also be a compelling option.

Ultimately, consider reaching out to current analysts at both firms to get a better sense of the culture and specific opportunities available in their respective groups.
