Looking for a mentor/(s) to break into the Secondaries Industry via Private Capital Advisory
Nice to e-meet you all. I'm currently a 1st year IB Analyst working in Infrastructure. I want to transition to a secondary advisory/P.E. group as it's a great space. Since It's in its infancy, there will be an opportunity to find ways to unlock more value for investors in the future, and I want to be part of the process.
I would love to connect with like-minded people and take it from there. I look forward to connecting!
Hey there! It's great to see your enthusiasm for the Secondaries Industry. It's indeed a dynamic space with lots of opportunities.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, I'd recommend you to start by reading up on the industry. There are several resources available online that can give you a good understanding of the market. Some of these include "An Introduction to Private Equity Secondaries - CAIS", "A Liquidity Cushion in Troubled Times: The PE Secondaries Market - INSEAD Knowledge", "LP Corner: An Overview of Fund Secondaries - Allen Latta", and "Navigating Secondaries: A Guide to Changing Currents - Landmark Capital / Ares".
Also, keep an eye on the latest trends such as single-asset secondaries and continuation funds. Interesting transactions to study include BC Partners continuation fund for Springer Nature and Hellman & Friedman transfer of the remaining portfolio companies from Fund VII to its own continuation vehicle.
In terms of finding a mentor, the WSO forums are a great place to connect with professionals in the field. You can also participate in Q&A sessions like the one hosted by a PE Secondaries Principal on WSO. This could be a great opportunity to learn from someone who has experience in the industry and could potentially guide you.
Lastly, when you're ready to make the move, there are several firms you might want to consider. These include Blackstone Strategic Partners, GS AIMS, Apollo S3, TPG Ares, Landmark, Glendower, ICG BlackRock, Coller, Pantheon, AlpInvest, Neuberger Berman, Lexington, and Jasper Ridge.
Remember, networking is key in this industry. So, don't hesitate to reach out to people and ask for advice. Good luck with your journey!
