Lost FT Offer due to the Pandemic

Was going to a boutique M&A investment bank for ft 2020 in the North East but unfortunately the position got taken away due to the recent pandemic. Senior at a top liberal arts school and confused on what to do about next steps. Was looking into startups and investment banking. Are their any investment banking ft 2020 gigs still hiring?

Not sure why you're getting monkey shit. A bank that's going to pull the rug out from under new hires doesn't deserve to be afforded confidentiality. Plus, the OP could potentially help someone else not get screwed in the future

Sorry to hear about that man. Agree with Kanon that it might be worth following with an MD or two to see if they can you plug you to some other openings. Did you intern at this firm last year? From the sound of your message it sounds like you didn't so it might be worth reaching out to firms/companies you've interned with to see if there's anything there or, if not, ask for some referrals.

it was the staffer (vp) who broke the news. its a specialized M&A shop so I assume he aspects deal flow to stay limited for the next couple of months. Thanks for the input I'll send him an email tomorrow

I am in a similar position, not able to stay on after my internship as it was planned. Pretty much no offers out there right now, most are for lateral hiring. I am thinking about 1 year MSF programs or a 5th year at my school. Maybe I will just work any job that I can get and wait until August/September when full-time recruiting starts. It is a tough situation, but if you keep working hard, opportunities will come up.

I am in a similar position but different industry. My plan is to do a 1 year masters that doesn't require a GRE (Since I didn't take one) and reapply next year. Getting anything right now seems pretty difficult. I also reached out in my network to see if they had anything. If your bosses liked you as an intern, maybe you can ask them to send your resume out.

I was looking into MSF programs as well but was hesitant because I don't think fulltime 2021 is going to have many opportunities given how most banks are giving out return offers to all the interns

Hiya, don't know if this applies, but you could always check out the Point72 externship that is offered specifically to students who lost their internships in finance.
