low gpa asking for advice on FT recruiting/junior SA
hi, asking for advice, degrading comments will be ignored LOL (ik chances are slim)
3.2 cumulative, 3.3 major (dual) gpa on an upwards trend. should hopefully make it to 3.5 major gpa and 3.4 cumulative next semester
preface:
-found out about ib super late (first in my family to make it to college)
-at a semi target, (mostly sends kids to BBs or upper level MMs, a few elite boutiques here and there)
- did get one superday due to a program at a MM but it's more known for other things rather than IB.
- had to help out family & had health issues resulting in lower gpa
internships:
- freshman summer: hedgefund & pe (more searchfund) lmk if i should remove one of these since it did raise eyebrows how I did 2 internships
- sophomore summer: nyc hedgefund
- junior summer: nothing as of rn, actively applying
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s a game plan for tackling FT recruiting and junior SA opportunities with a low GPA:
1. Leverage Your Upward Trend
2. Address the GPA in Context
3. Maximize Networking
4. Refine Your Resume
5. Focus on Junior Summer Opportunities
6. Prepare for Technicals and Behaviorals
7. Be Strategic with FT Recruiting
8. Consider Alternative Paths
Final Thoughts
Your GPA may be a hurdle, but it’s not insurmountable. Focus on networking, showcasing your resilience, and demonstrating your technical skills. Persistence and preparation will be your biggest assets. Good luck!
