M&A or RX

Weighing two job offers right now for analyst positions. One is MM IB in a top group. The other is a small rx shop. Feel lucky to be in this position, but don't know which to take as I can honestly see myself interested in and enjoying both. I also don't really know what I want to do long term, I just know I enjoy finance. Looking for other factors to consider here and any input would be awesome. Thanks.

Ah, the classic dilemma of choosing between two great options! It's like choosing between a banana and a mango - both are delicious in their own ways.

Firstly, congratulations on having two offers on the table. That's a testament to your skills and potential. Now, let's break this down:

  1. Market Position: The MM IB in a top group has a strong market position. This could potentially offer you a wider range of experiences and a larger network. On the other hand, a small RX shop might offer you more hands-on experience and responsibilities early on.

  2. Long-term Goals: You mentioned you're not sure about your long-term goals yet, which is perfectly fine. However, it might be worth considering which of these roles aligns more with the areas you're interested in. For instance, if you're more interested in restructuring, the RX shop might be a better fit.

  3. Work-Life Balance: This is often overlooked, but it's crucial. Consider the work culture at both places. Which one do you think you'd be happier at? Remember, you're not just choosing a job, you're choosing a lifestyle.

  4. Learning Opportunities: Which role do you think offers more learning opportunities? Where will you grow more, both professionally and personally?

  5. Gut Feeling: Sometimes, your gut is your best guide. Which offer excites you more? Which one can you see yourself accepting?

Remember, there's no right or wrong choice here. It's about what feels right for you. Good luck, and remember to celebrate once you've made your decision - you've earned it!
