Bump
Congrats on maccap
Thank you lol
He's not really the head of trading, he's the head of the Commodities and Global Markets division which is separate from the investment banking division Macquarie Capital (MacCap). CGM wayy outperformed MacCap this yr

I would not confuse an executive getting paid well with juniors getting paid well. Macquarie is masterful at underpaying their employees / off market bonus deferrals while at the same time convincing their employees they have a great culture driving low turnover.

I mean, naturally in a year where commodities MASSIVELY outperform the stock market, you're going to see the head of that group get a killer windfall. Probably a significant jump from what he made on average between 2018 - 2021, if I had to guess. Good for him though, hope the juniors in IB make out well.
Bump, wanna know what bonuses were so I know what to expect next year lmao
Can’t imagine IB bonuses where great. IB revenue was down 50% from last year
Yeah no shit — looking for the actual numbers here to know what to expect
Bump, were they really so bad that nobody wants to share?
Very very bad. That’s all I will say. I know a lot of people that started looking elsewhere immediately after memo day.
Thanks for the response, and I'm sorry to hear that. I just have to ask if you are able to provide any approximate ranges for bonuses? Have any idea what the analyst 1 bonus was? Was it bad across all groups, or was it group dependent? Overall, was it bad compared to last year, or bad compared to what other banks have been paying in the downturn?
Sorry for all the questions, but kinda desperate to get color on what to expect. Thanks again!
First year analysts bonuses are flat across the US regardless of group performance. Good groups in a good year might get a bit extra. I’ve heard ~30k stub or ~45k prorated. Not sure about other 2nd years, I was a top-bucket 2nd year and my bonus was in the low 70-80k range. Not crazy bad, but a huge discount to last year’s bonus (100-150% for top performers).
Look where though? Are there really openings given the market environment?
Exactly. Very likely people won’t end up leaving given lack of seats elsewhere. Although, PE is still recruiting and previously unsure analysts will look to exit through off-cycle recruiting.
IB bonus was 50% for analysts in London.
Private Credit analysts got 100%
