MBA FT IB Recruiting

Hey Folks-I am at a T20 MBA and wanted some advice on FT MBA recruiting. I am an international and was not able to get an offer due to various reasons such as luck, not having enough opportunities at my school etc. Is it still possible to land a FT IB gig if I dont have an IB internship? Also, what kind of internships will help me get there? If there is someone here who is still recruiting for Summer Associates, I would be open to learning more about the opportunity. Thank you.

It’s possible but super tough. Most classes for FT are taken from summers and if they need to hire it will usually be either people with offers who are looking to trade up or summers who didn’t get FT offers at their bank and are trying for a different bank. So in that sense you’ll be last in line. With that being said, if you went through summer recruiting, keep in touch with everyone you networked with reach out like the last couple weeks of the summer to see how they think the full-time class is gonna shake out. I’ve seen it happen so just hustle.

Best bet is to get an finance role in industry and then try to lateral into a group that covers that industry, leveraging your experience. If you don't have any other options, this is likely your best bet. Try consulting and then try to lateral over that way as well.

the move here is to get ANY IB or deal-focused finance roll you can, even if it is for some small regional shop. During rerecruiting , some banks won’t even talk to you if you don’t have another FT offer, much less no summer internship. the first thing afT hiring is gonna ask themselves is “why didn’t anyone make him an offer?”, so you need to offset that via some roll that is either very close or or similar but smaller deals.
