MBA summer internship advice
Hi all, I’m looking for some sharp advice as I get ready for my MBA summer internship (associate role) in IB. Quick backgroud: I don’t come from finance (engineering before), but I’ve spent the last year immersing in IB stuff. I’ve done lots of M&A, LBO, and debt modeling cases at school, and also spent good time learning my industry, main players, and recent deals.
I’ve got around 20 days left to prep and I want to focus on things that will really give me an edge when I hit the desk. Not really looking for generic tips like “work hard” or “be a team player” (I know that already) – more like specific advice that helped you or others. For example: should I drill deeper into technical modeling now, or focus more on reading the bank’s deal flow and understanding their style? Any Excel tricks that saved you time? Any small things that made a big difference in your performance?
Any tips are appreciated, esp. from people who’ve been through the MBA internship. I’m serious about making the most of it and aiming for the return offer. Thanks!
Let’s be real—if you’re not from a target school, no one’s betting on you. Smile, fake it, and coast through. You’ll get your “learning experience” and be out by August anyway.
What? Plenty of summers get return offers, including “non targets”
