MD relationship

I'm about to accept an analyst 1 offer (m&a; moved from ER to m&a) but wanted to ask how much cold relationship with a MD can impact my career.

I got extremely well along with analysts, assocs and VP to the point where the MD made me an offer despite not really liking me I think

Very little impact especially as a first year. Also if the MD really didn't like you he could easily kill your offer. More likely he is just like that, or was having a bad day unrelated to you, or was just neutral on you and the others liked you enough to push you over the line

Also if this is a bigger group... hate to say it, but at my group (80+ people) a lot of MDs don't even bother to learn the names of analysts - there are just too many juniors and they all leave quickly. When I was recruiting as an analyst I totally hit it off with one MD, thought he'd be a career mentor... probably saw the guy a handful of times after that, never willing to get coffee with juniors, and don't think he could pick me out of a lineup after working together for two years. Not really a great thing but my point is you shouldn't expect outstanding, close relationships with your MDs unless you're in a tiny group. I know ER is different because of such small teams / only working for one senior.
