Microsoft Surface Pro 3 for IBD Remote Working?

Guys,

Would love to hear some recommendations for what laptops to buy for remote working. I am not looking at desktop since my desk at home is really small and I would like to bring this work laptop with me when I am traveling as well.

People who have use Microsoft Surface and windows 8 please tell whether this is similar to Windows 7 in terms of all the keyboard, excel shortcuts. I want something that can be almost identical to my workplace's desktop to maximize my efficiency out the office.
