Middle Market TMT exits

Incoming analyst at MM in SF. Can anyone give me insight on what kind of exits analysts have after a 2 year stint in the MM tech M&A space?

I assume MM/LMM tech PE is an option, however after grinding 80-100 hrs a week for 2 years I’d love to move in to a position with better WLB. Would these positions just be corpdev? Is it possible to score a solid position in tech after this stint? Thanks!

It can be whatever you make it to be. Learn a ton, dive on deals, and be hungry. Network your balls off and leave no stone unturned. You will have a plethora of PE options, GE, corp dev, and if you grind and network, HF. Don't let anyone on WSO predict your own future for yourself.

Nobody is gonna screw you over unless you come off as an asshole or too aggressive. The firms you want to exit/lateral to know why you're networking- to get an interview. Everyone knows the game

If you are targeting larger tech companies (either public or private), strategic finance/corp dev is a good bet for balancing comp vs WLB. I personally would avoid FP&A at larger companies since the role often ends up pretty narrow in scope, but YMMV.

If you are open to smaller startups/growth cos, then general finance/FP&A can also be good places to be (though obviously a lot more variability in terms of comp/hours/upside). A lot of the strategic stuff will be run out of finance anyway since it's not like a company that just raised $25mm will have a corp dev team/role anyway.

PE options are definitely available as well as CD/Strat roles if you're looking for better WLB. Tech is certainly an option for these roles, especially having been plugged in as a banker for the same or similar companies. Not sure what else you'd consider a "solid" gig but seems like the PE route or CD/Strat gig would be best aligned.
