From my experience, it’s a great team with solid deal flow and you get exposure to a lot of sponsor transactions. There are also strong MD relationships, particularly with sponsors like Blackstone, Stonepeak, and 26North. Mizuho publicly highlights its sponsor platform across acquisition financing, strategic advisory, and other capital solutions, and the 26North relationship in particular seems quite active.
For exits, most of what I’ve seen has been into private credit or private equity, with one person recently going to Vista. WLB is definitely not the selling point — it’s a pretty classic work-hard/play-hard culture and there are a lot of hours, especially when deals are live.
Wow, this is good insight. I knew about the BX and Stonepeak relationships. Heard they work a ton with Apollo too. Any estimates on comp particularly at the junior level?
