MM intern to FT at BB?

I will be interning this summer at a middle-market bank in Chicago (BGL, D.A. Davidson, HSBC). Is it possible to move to a bulge bracket bank (J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley) for a full-time role in Chicago afterward, and what is the best way to go about doing that?

For context, I switched my major from aerospace engineering to finance and accounting and was very late to this year’s recruiting cycle. I feel that if I had been earlier in the process, I could have placed at a top bank. Ik people are going to say just network, but is this even possible coming from low tier MM or am I better off moving up MM. I also have been told I should stay 1 yr and then try and move up to gain actual deal experience. Curious if anyone has done this or had similar time lines.

Much much easier to do a year and then lateral, many more slots. The main issue that a lot of people that try this for FT is that they spend too much time on networking and don't get the return offer. Market is dead for laterals right now both from summer to full-time and general analyst hiring.
