Modeling and Recruiting
I haven't had an IB internship, but I want to know whether taking a modeling course on my own (while in college) would enhance my chances of obtaining an SA job this summer. Would banks actually care if I took a modeling course?
It'll help with the technical questions during interviews
No no no no no no .....
Just get the WSO technical guide and you'll get what you need to. Vault and BeatTheStreet are also excellent.
Anyone taking a modeling class is wasting their money. I can opine if anyone would like to debate it.
Someone interviewing with a boutique or MM for a lateral 2nd year position (no training upon hire). They've been in finance but not IB, so they are experienced enough to land a few lateral interviews despite having no IB modeling experience. Also, they were told there would be a modeling test during the interview process.
Go ahead and tell me this person is wasting his time with a modeling course...I'll believe you.
Every place is different, but in my local market, if you can't build a model and have work samples ready to send in, you're not hired, not even for an unpaid internship...period.
What does that have to do with my comment? Anyways, my statement stands.
Just backing up your point...sorry for the lack of clarification earlier.
I was taken out of context. For an SA or FT IB interview while you are in college, a modeling course is unnecessary.
The OP is applying to SA positions.
Experienced hires = different situation
what about Rosenbaum's IB? I've heard great things, is it just too much material?
It's a good book, but it's a lot of detail that you don't necessarily need.
I read it on the way to a superday, but it was not what got me the position.
The guides usually have what you need.
Rosenbaum = Gold.
Also go through Damodaran's website for some useful models/guides.
Otherwise Google Search is a powerful tool my friend.
Awesome, thanks
How does it look as a resume booster? Doesn't it show interest?
No. Any i-bank will teach you how to model if you are coming into a SA or FT position out of college.
Kk.
Any courses that you recommend for SA and FT applicants? I'm a liberal arts major.
