Morgan Stanley Office Attire

Incoming IBD SA/FT at MS in their NY Office. Was wondering what the attire is in the office? This summer many interns didn't get to go into the office especially in a normal environment. Have heard is pretty formal with many guys wearing full suits and have heard there is some casual attire as well. Would really appreciate any insight.

Wear a suit? I would rather ask around than show up looking like a dweeb on my first day

Incredibly idiotic statement.

You can't be overdressed on day 1 of an internship. Being underdressed is incredibly stupid and leaves a bad first impression.

Grow up dweeb.

MS IBD analyst here. Echo what was said before. Suit first day - can quickly ditch a tie if someone says something. Each group is a bit different - some rock ties everyday while some don't. You'll get a sense of what to wear going forward after first day.

I think I will wear a hoodie, crocs and a durag based on the comments above as I believe it will be appropriate although it may err on the "casual" side. As previously discussed , my friends in MBBs on the west coast have recently taken the liberty to wear polos and chinos even though their official dress code is suits. I believe the dress code for MBB and IBD is very similar

Navy suit, white shirt, classic tie, black shoes/belt, and make sure it all fits reasonably well. You literally cannot lose. Absolutely no one will fault you for showing up to a BB dressed like a professional. See what full time folks wear, ask around, and dress accordingly for the remainder of your internship. Common sense here fellas.

Currently a VP at MS NYC, the culture is very casual most of the time people just show up in jeans and a t-shirt or a hoodie. Definitely not a suit and tie/buttoned down shirt type of office. I’d recommend you come in dressed down and casual on your first day
