Morgan Stanley Public Finance / Municipals

Hoping someone can shed some light on the Public Finance / Municipals team at MS? I’m already in the space and am curious on culture and morale (I am aware of deal flow). If someone specifically, could comment on the project finance team that would be helpful.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Morgan Stanley's culture, particularly in certain groups, has been described as challenging. While MS often claims to have a strong culture, some insiders have noted issues such as internal politics, lack of transparency, and poor team dynamics. For example, in some groups, there is a perception of "faking it till you make it" and a lack of genuine support for team members. This could potentially extend to the Public Finance/Municipals team, though specific details about this team are not explicitly mentioned in the dataset.

Regarding Project Finance, it is often compared to Public Finance but with a heavier focus on credit-related work and structuring various tranches of debt. Project Finance teams are generally described as collegial, with MDs working alongside juniors even during late hours. The culture in Project Finance is often seen as less hierarchical and more supportive compared to other areas.

If you're already in the space, it might be worth considering how these cultural dynamics align with your preferences and career goals.
