Moving from Energy to NYC

Hello Monkeys!

I'm currently a 1st year analyst at a MM shop (Truist, TD, Stifel, etc.) and am looking to lateral to a firm in NYC down the road, primarily to unlock better long-term exit opportunities. I’d love to get some candid advice on how to navigate this process effectively.

How should I approach the timing of launching a search (waiting for 6 months vs. 1 year vs. early networking), and what’s the realistic mix of headhunter pull versus cold outreach for regional candidates? Is it similar to recruiting for SA?

I'd also be curious to hear about any major friction points or red flags NYC teams tend to watch out for when screening someone coming from a regional MM.
