In another group at MS so have good insight here: Worst culture at the firm by far, IBD management had to intervene not too long ago as it was typical for MD's to openly scream at juniors on the floor. They do offer cross vertical experience however the MP office brings in most of the FinTech deals that you see us on. NY FIG is banks and insurance heavy from a deal flow perspective. Analysts usually do a 3rd year in another group to gain traditional buyside exits

I work in FIG and have had the displeasure of working across the table from MS FIG.  My view (and others in my group and a few at other banks) is they have the worst culture of any FIG group on the street.  Live-to-work personalities that are just downright disrespectful to everyone around them (including their junior bankers on deals).  Limited ability to socialize because they have no notable interests out of work and always appear to be incredibly stressed.

I suggest you take any other available option if you value your mental health and/or any semblance of work-life balance.

It’s not that the attitude, seniors, or culture are that much different in FIG.

Just FIG tends to get the analysts that no one else wants, so a disproportionate share of analysts aren’t prepared for the job, aren’t particularly interested in learning, and then go on to be the loudest voices complaining.

To be clear, this isn’t the majority of analysts. Within the analyst class, the FIG group might be 25% duds, whereas TMT or M&A might have 5% of the duds at most.

the other challenge is if 25% of the analyst class can’t market update a set of comps in FactSet a year in, the rest get stuck with a disproportionate share of the work.

Some mandated improvement in culture as others mentioned above but based on a friends recent AN experience still one of the, if not the, worst groups on the street in that regard.

Curious about an update on the group. Has the culture improved in the past few years? What are exit ops like?

Lots of PE exits - mostly generalist, a few FIG PE. MF exits tend to be to their FIG teams. Being in this group will get you a lot of looks but still need to interview well to get the offers.
