Need Advice - ECM Exits
Work is mostly mindless market updates at analyst level - need advice.
Looking for roles more conducive to understanding companies / strategy.
What are possible exits? Corp dev? VC? Lateral to IB?
Worth staying 1 year to make Associate?
Bad to leave new role ASAP? How long should I wait?
VC is pretty unlikely from ECM, but corp dev is very doable. Lateraling or internal transfer is your best bet, ECM is competitive enough that you'll get interest from solid IB groups (assuming you're at a BB here) but you need to wait minimum 6-8 months, with the best opportunities coming around 1 year.
Also unless you lateraled in already as a senior analyst, you're 2 years away from associate
Thanks for response.
Makes sense. I'd avoid lateraling again unless you have to. Internal transfer at 1 year is pretty easy but they'd likely make you do a 3rd analyst year.
