Probably KCL or Manchester. Manchester is starting to place people better of late, and King's, although not that good a university as compared to LSE/UCL etc, it is still in London which offers you the networking opportunities/events etc. But mind you, both are semi-targets, and it still wouldn't be easy to land a FO IB job.

Not sure about Melbourne but from what I heard it's hard if you're not an Australian citizen.

They're all targeted in some way.. Would choose based on where you'd rather go to school for 3-4 years.

Was obsessed with finance, now do product in tech

I've met plenty of bankers in the City who come from Manchester or Edinburgh. If your goal is to work in London, I'd choose one of those. Those who I know from Edi had no problems interviewing in London, most firms will cover the flight + hotel anyways.

Uni of Melb is a great school, but it's gonna be harder to recruit for non-Australian roles and the number of Aussie internship/job opportunities are far fewer than in the UK.

KCL and it shouldn’t even be a question. Edinburgh is dead (and I lived there for 5 years so I would know). Manchester isn’t great and Melbourne wouldn’t be ideal for breaking in. KCL churn out IB analysts every year so you should be fine; to put your mind at ease go on LinkedIn and search “KCL investment banking analyst” or something along those lines.

In terms of apps you should go to all the banks’ events during the year and make sure that you have a professional looking CV. If you manage to get an internship before your 1st year- Great! In fact, having a decent looking CV, solid cover letters and applying early and consistently will put your ahead of your peers.

Good luck.
