Negotiating VP Offer I Don’t Really Want

I am expecting an offer for a VP role in a niche structured finance team of a global non-US bank. I am pretty reluctant about the offer since it would require moving to NYC from SoCal, 5 days in office, and in a narrow field I’m not passionate about.

That said, I’m about to be out of work and not sure if I’ll be able to find any roles I’m more interested in. Given I’m hesitant, I want to see how much I can ask for / what might actually be on the table given they reached out to me…

For those who have lateraled / hired at VP level what’s possible in terms of: guarantees (2026 and 2027?), sign-on, relocation, stock grant (they’re aware I won’t be giving up any comp, but assume they would buy out another candidate), promotion timeline, etc
