Networking call with somebody rude

So I was wondering how to handle a networking call with someone a little rude. I was on a call with someone who happily agreed to get on with me, and I was on time and everything, but they were typing the whole time we spoke, hung up in the middle and called me back 20 minutes later, etc. I understand people are busy, but it just was a little off-putting.

Do you think it's ok to just quickly wrap up a call like that where it feels like the person is not really willing to speak? I wasn't asking for anything from the person beyond their background and advice they had for someone in a spot they were a while ago.

bump. I've been in the same situation and not sure why these people even agreed to hop on the phone. Like what the fuck?

From the other side - stuff happens and you can catch someone on a busy day, especially if you’re speaking with an analyst. If someone senior needs something asap mid call they are not going to push that off for a networking call. it happened to me when I was networking and I’ve probably done this to some people trying to network with me.

I’ve had my fair share of these types of calls. Only thing you can really do is power through it and don’t take it personally on the phone. You never have to speak with them again after most likely, so it’s really no big deal. Focus on your good connections and let the pricks be themselves - it won’t get them far
