Networking e-mail question

I was going to start getting on the network drive again and has a few questions.

Is it bad to BCC several people the same e-mail? What if they are the same firm? Different firm?

Is there a good way to start / structure the e-mail?

So far I know this,

-Keep it short for the initial contact less than 5 sentences -be honest with them.

So would something like this be ok

"My name is XXX XXX and I noticed you were a banker at XXX. I have a high interest in that firm when it comes to investment banking and was wondering if you could spare 10 or 15 minutes to talk with me. I want to learn more about investment banking, your firm, and maybe ask a few questions about yourself.

Thanks in advance, XXXX"

Hahaha, you watched the webinar. i did, too. from what the mentor said, it sounds good. also, he tended to be a bit more aggressive, i.e. attaching a resume or cover letter on the initial response. he did add to be tactful, too.

cheers

The difference between successful people and others is largely a habit - a controlled habit of doing every task better, faster and more efficiently.

Never BCC things to anyone. Take the time to genuinely learn something about the person/firm you are contacting. This will increase your chances of being replied to. Bankers get a bunch of generic "hi i like ib can i talk 2 u" e-mails everyday.

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

@mhurricane: Yes I saw you in the webinar :) I do not want to attach my resume because i come from a non-target school with a subprime GPA ( you may remember when I asked him that question lol ) I would rather be tactful and get a strong first impression before my resume allows for a prejudgement.

@Neighbor: Sounds good, so far I have collected a few names of people at the same firm I was going to initially e-mail. It is a firm I prefer because of their style and culture. Do you think it would be alright to send them all the same e-mail that is not BCC'd with a quick firm specific fact such as "I noticed xxxx took place in a recent estimated EPS increase for INTU" somewhere in there?

I would never BCC for networking purposes. People are more likely to response to tailored emails than generic ones. I would also go for personal information instead of firm info. That means if you have the names, try to find out more about that person and what connections do you have. Same fraternity? Same clubs? Same hobby etc?

"Hi Sir, I was creeping for you on Facebook and Linked-In when I came across your name on the Registered Sex Offender list. I am also on that list for urinating in public. Tell me a little about your story?"

Something like that guys?

My name is Nicky, but you can call me Dre.

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."
