Networking for career advice?

I want to network with school alum and former classmates for career advice. Is there a way to do this without being cringe? I am not networking for a job, but for advice to have a better idea about my career path. I have used cold DM's to alumni on LinkedIn before - that is how I got my first job out of undergrad.

I am planning on asking questions about why they chose the path they did, what interested them, and what motivated them. I was planning on doing 15 minute calls or coffee chats with the leadership at my work.

Is there a better way to do this or is this a good plan?
