Networking with a MD?

Guys I am new to this shit, so give me a break please.

I am beyond desperate for a lateral to a front end role. So recently I went on a 'networking spree' (or desperately tried to) and sent a bunch of LinkedIn invites left, right, and centre. Now an MD level guy at a boutique who is also CEO-India has accepted my request. Only thing I can find is that we have the same hometown (I know it sounds stupid, but THIS IS a major starter especially when you are from a small town in India).

How do I talk to this guy? Asking general tips on IB career? Is it too much to bother an MD level guy for recruiting (junior associate level)?

Please give me some pointers on how to approach him.

Thanks

Not really super involved in networking, but I am an Indian. We're proud of our hometowns, no matter what part of the world we're in. As long he's like most of us, I'm sure you should be able to connect with him about shared experiences in your town. Good luck!

Try to make a connection first. Getting him to push for you will only happen if he likes you. Get to know him, learn more about his experiences in the industry, and maybe try and talk about the "good old days" of growing up in that town.

Remember, people like to be heard. Let him do most of the talking and make sure he likes you. I'm pretty sure WSO also has some networking guides you might find useful.
