NOL Presentation Question
Hey all, I'm curious about the presentation of an nol in the DTA breakdown provided in companies' notes to financial statements. Specifically, I've seen the presentation 2 different ways: (a) NOL DTA provided in a given table being equivalent to the numbers discussed in the text below the table; (b) NOL DTA provided in the table being a fraction of what is elaborated in the text below the table. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting that when I read it, but is there a reason that the presentation can sometimes differ company-to-company?
Googling it will probably give you a better answer than you will find here, but it likely has to do with taking an estimate of the present value of the post-tax carry forward benefit (i.e. PV of the cumulative expected cash tax savings) vs showing it at the full pre-tax value.
