I was talking to someone the other day at a non-target who broke into a BB (think JPM, Goldman, MS) who said they only got into the interview process through a connection in another division of the bank.
Is this common at a lot of BB firms? Or will only IBD referrals get you into the recruiting pipeline? I guess this is probably more true at firms where HR runs the early rounds of the recruiting and not the junior banker themselves.

I'd be surprised if you break into IB from getting someone in Compliance to refer you......seems possible, but unlikely
