NONEXPENSIVE Laptop Recommendations for IB Modelling Prep

Incoming SA27 at a BB and want to get familiar with Excel but unfortunately I have a mac. A bit short on budget, so wondering if anyone has laptop recommendations (circa $800-1200 hopefully) that'd work for me to learn and practice modelling extensively.

You don't need to spend $800 to practice Excel. Get a used Thinkpad and a monitor.

Set up bootcamp on your Mac (free) and get a keyboard. Very cheap and simple

Any thinkpad that’s 2-3 years old should do the job just fine. Pay for OneDrive storage (or use your school provided one of you have it) so the excels don’t slow down the computer

“Non-expensive” + “$1200” is questionable, that’s a perfectly healthy budget.

If you want a separate laptop then probably just a thinkpad, those things are tanks. Just get a more specced one.

Alternatively, it could make a lot more sense to just get a windows emulator and a windows keyboard and use windows excel via your Mac. Just saying

get an hp shit box with a decent cpu and no other bells andwhistles. then upgrade the ram(make sure it's not soldered to the fucking mother board). thenproceed to try andgoon with it onefateful night and accidentally jizz all over the fucking track-pad and bottom half of the keyboard....wake up the nextmorning and realizethe fucking mouseis glitchy and thespace bar worksonly half the time.fuck.

A bit embarassing, but you could always practice if your school has any public use computers, given they are not macs and have a full 100% keyboard.
