Not Getting Invites to Events Means You Are Out for that Firm's On-Cycle?

title. been seeing a lot of firms/HHs sending out invites to cocktail/happy hour/in-office visit/info session events. talked to some friends and figured that i did not get a lot of those for some reason (tier 1 eb, t10, 3.7). does that mean i somehow screwed up HHs' intro chats back in March/April and am no longer on their list of potential on-cycle candidates for top clients?

would be rly helpful if past oncycle candidates can chime in and share their experiences & if getting invites to those events rly mean something

Based on the most helpful WSO content, not receiving invites to events like cocktail hours, happy hours, or info sessions doesn't necessarily mean you're completely out of the running for a firm's on-cycle recruiting process. However, it can be an indicator of where you currently stand in the headhunters' or firms' priority lists.

Here are some key insights from past on-cycle candidates and WSO threads:

  1. Event Invites as a Signal: These events are often used by firms and headhunters to gauge interest and build relationships with candidates they see as strong prospects. If you're not receiving invites, it could mean you're not currently a top priority for certain firms or headhunters.

  2. Headhunter Dynamics: It's possible that your initial chats with headhunters in March/April didn't leave a strong enough impression, or they may have deprioritized you for their top-tier clients. However, this doesn't mean you're entirely out of the game. Headhunters often revisit their candidate lists as the process evolves.

  3. Proactive Follow-Up: If you suspect you're being overlooked, consider reaching out to headhunters to reaffirm your interest and update them on any new achievements or experiences. A polite and professional follow-up can sometimes put you back on their radar.

  4. Timing and Strategy: Some candidates have shared that waiting for the next on-cycle recruiting season, as suggested in certain WSO threads, can be beneficial. Gaining more experience and refining your understanding of private equity or investment banking can make you a stronger candidate in the future.

  5. Don't Overthink It: Not all firms or headhunters rely heavily on these events to make decisions. Some candidates have successfully navigated the on-cycle process without attending any pre-recruiting events.

In summary, while event invites can be a helpful signal, they are not the sole determinant of your candidacy. Focus on maintaining strong relationships with headhunters, staying prepared for interviews, and considering alternative strategies if needed.
