NYC Apartment Timeline

Starting as FT Analyst in NYC this summer and looking for places. Going abroad before being chained to the desk and won't be able to tour places until around June 10th. Is this pulling it too close for July 1 move-in? Have seen old posts that say you could pull things out in literally a week if you had to but wondering what the current environment is like.

pm me im looking for a roomate gonna be tribeca/fidi meeting with a realtor june 5th to tour 8-9 jawns and sign something that day

You want to make sure you have all your paperwork in order 4 weeks before move in and ideally start looking 2-3 weeks just so you can get a feel for what apartments are going for/can you reasonably get what you want. It's very possible to close on an apartment in 24 hours (tour and immediately apply) with move in shortly thereafter, but you want more flexibility to make sure you get one you like. I agree with above posters that the market is incredibly fast, all good apartments I looked at were under contract after 1 viewing.

Just had a buddy go through something similar last week. He found a place that got posted, did a virtual tour, signed lease 4 hours later. Moved in this past weekend.

Definitely a possibility but would be mindful that places go quick, however, it’s important not to jump the gun
