NYU Students: Are you guys seriously using AI to write and send your networking emails?
At a BB in coverage and this is the most networking emails I’ve ever gotten in a recruiting season. I get 4-5 emails every single day clogging up my inbox (some from the same NYU Sophomore who is following up for the 5th fucking time)

As a Stern MBA alumn, the amount of emails I get from sophomores is mindboggling
No AI, but I think there's just a general consensus that recruiting has gotten exponentially more difficult in the past few years - at this point the only tangible advice we've gotten (from alumni) is to just keep sending emails and it being a pure numbers game. I might be the sophomore you're referring to in the original post, and I just want to sincerely apologize if so. I was complimented a couple times on my persistence/told to keep following up as many times as it takes by other bankers, so I thought it was just expected/the norm. Again, sorry for the follow ups, and I'll be sure to dial it back from now on.

No, keep being persistent just make sure you remain respectful - some guys will act like they are god's gift to earth here but most people appreciate hard workers who know what they want and work hard to get it

I was going to just comment the same thing here, you just gotta keep following up with people.
Some of us honestly just are busy or suck at being good alumni mentors. Just keep going but always be professional in your emails and try to limit to 3x per person
Totally separate note, but I used to actually have other bankers write my emails for me when reaching out to more senior people...
I think there have always been methods to multiply the number of emails sent out and ChatGPT is just the easiest one to use now
The good thing is that if someone is too busy to reply after the 5th follow up, they are usually too busy to complain about it to other people. As always it’s a numbers game so you may come across the one guy willing to bitch online about it

It’s a numbers game. You have to use all the tools available. Still should be personalized given how easy that is with ai. Students at NYU are encouraged to follow up 4-5x as people are busy.
They are trying to get a job, what do you want them to do? You didn't network when you were interviewing? if you don't want to chat with them either ignore or you could've just let them know you're busy in the same amount of time it took you to type this
It’s the AI word mess listing the 10 mediocre banks I worked at and how impressive that makes me not want to talk to these people

Kids have it way too easy sending emails with AI. I had this old MD who was so obsessed with The Smurfs that, I bet if you prompted ChatGPT with “re-write my networking email as if you were writing to Papa Smurf,” he’d get such a kick out of it and hop on the phone on the spot.
Yeah I’ve posted a few stories about him, and I have plenty more to drop when applicable. Far and away the most eccentric person I’ve ever worked with.

Can’t speak to what you are getting, but as an MBA student at NYU, they will provide templates to students to use when reaching out. You might be getting a less effort version but likely the generic email they have.
It’s a numbers game for us, and we have a list of all NYU alumni at banks so if your name is on it you are basically screwed in the sense that 100+ students each year will see your name and email you to try to network.

Jokes on them. I use ai agents to screen resumes, schedule calls, and speak to candidates. My agent makes me sound like DMX and occasionally barks like a pitbull
