Offer - Top MM shop

I received an offer from a top MM shop this past Friday. I am still interviewing and have a super day at another firm this Friday. I am very happy with the offer, but I have worked hard during this recruiting session/4 years of college. I feel it is only fair I am allowed to explore all my options. The guy that hired me said they would like to know by this Friday. I feel that this is a little unreasonable as most people when they are given a full time offer are given till December?? I understand where he is coming from given that the group is very small. I did get the job through my school’s career center but don’t want to get them involved. Do you think politely asking for a week extension is unreasonable?

A week extension is definitely reasonable.

My career center's policy is that all employers must give us 2 weeks AND comply with any reasonable request for extension.

You say you're unwilling to get the career center involved, but this is what they're here to do - advocate on your behalf. I'd ask nicely first, but if they refuse, go to the career center.

I haven't heard of any banks giving offers with expirations in December. I think a week or two is typical. Also, if you know you're going to take your MM offer, take it and free up positions for the rest of your school's candidates to interview.

How soon after final rounds did you receive an offer?

I was recently in a similar situation. I talked to a rep at my school's career center and they called the firm to work things out. I was then given till the end of November to decide.
