Have response from associate at Lazard in SF, also called MD at GS in SF with favorable response. Have hot lead in boutique investment bank in SF.
Wish I networked harder in the summer, but had no time. So far, I'm praying hard that these next two months I will get lucky. Shooting for BB SA internship for 2013.
Sent about 20 emails, 3 responses with follow ups.
are you implying that your from a Bay Area non-target?
Not really from Bay area, but I've visited and I can see myself live in Bay area. Never been to NY, but that's my goal. I'm going to keep posting because I don't really know anyone else in my boat at my school.
Sent out 15 emails yesterday to people inside GS in NY. Will send out more to other firms today. No responses so far. Will continue to pray that I get a few responses a week.
Sent a few emails to bankers at CS yesterday. Revised my cold email WAY shorter. Changed the header to something more attractive.
Will send one or two daily rather than 5-10 cold emails. Just read a great article by olafenizer.
Only focusing on BB at the moment in NY.
I'm definitely changing up my strategy. Got no responses from anyone, not even people I know.
Only contacting those I have something related to (i.e. alumni, same sport, same hometown, etc.). I hate cold networking, it sucks.
If anyone has been in this position, would love to hear how you did it even though there a tons of stories out there.
I think you're on the right track. Just focus on those guys whom you think would be glad to give you a hand, and write to each one of them a specific email to highlight the relevance of you two. Doing so the chances of getting a reply would be much higher and less disappointing.
Good luck!
