On-cycle as a lateral analyst

Hi all, 6 months into my analyst stint and will be moving to a top EB

How are lateral analysts viewed in on cycle recruiting? Do they have a harder time than other analysts who started in the group?

I suppose I’m in a unique situation because

1) I’m moving very early

2) on cycle is delayed and I should hopefully have time to get some deals under my belt in the new group by the time recruiting kicks off. Plus I already closed a deal at my other bank.

Will I be fine as long as on cycle isn’t very soon, or does it make sense in this situation to sit out up coming cycle and recruit next year on cycle?

What is the issue here? You moved to a stronger group with better opportunities. I don't think people won't get the story. I think you are overthinking this. Unless you downgraded banks I think this is fine, there's a huge lateral market right now. I know several laterals who recruited during on-cycle and got better PE stints than some of our non-lateral analysts.

There is literally no reason to worry. Two of the most important things HHs and PE firms care about is bank name and the quality of your deal experience. From what it seems like, you have both of those boxes checked off.

You should be focusing on interview prep now- be able to talk intelligently about your deals, walk through resume, LBO modeling, technical questions, PE firm/fund research.

How did it play out for you? I'm finding myself in a similar position and would appreciate any info
